How to write an article for Medium, from a new writer’s perspective.
My title is a little misleading. Misleading in that, while I am not a new writer at all, I am a new writer on the Medium website. I have recently started, but not published a blog, ie The Unpopular Mom name in my pic, which is also my YouTube channel, as well as my socials, as well. I did watch a lot of videos after watching one of the biggest YouTubers write for medium, trying to see if she could make money on this platform. She is killing it on Youtube!
I’m not sure if I can mention her on this article, so I won’t mention her right now. She had only made a few dollars on her first article, and she let it just go through the normal process on Medium, and then she wrote her second article. She went viral! She does have a huge following on other socials, but she says she didn’t mention or link anything, so she thinks she had a fair shot at making money, like the rest of us does. She made about $6,000 on medium, with her second article, and she has moved on to writing others. After watching her videos, I decided to do some more research and see if I could also make some money on this platform.
Going back to my title, however. First, you sign up at the home page of Medium.com, under get started with Medium. You would then sign in with one of your socials, being Google, facebook, or twitter. It’s free to sign up to write for medium, but to read more than a few articles, you would need to pay their $5 a month fee. From the medium home page, you can then access the medium editor. You then click the plus at the top of the page, write your title, then the next plus to start writing. This is also where you can add a picture.
Even though the process may sound simple enough, don’t let that fool you. You will want to do your homework, learn about SEO — search engine optimization, and write about the topics people are searching for, not just visiting family in Kansas, Dorothy. Unless a big tornado does, indeed, sweep up your house! Research key words, topics, and more in-depth how to’s. YouTube is a wonderful research tool, along with Google!
